Ellen DeGeneres is the first Twitter user to reach 50 million Twitter followers! Her account TheEllenShow zoomed to the top of the Twitter leaderboard sometime in the middle of the night on Tuesday.
She zoomed past previous leaders including Justin Beiber and Lady Gaga, who has yet to break the 30 million mark. Ellen credits her rapid rise to the top of the TwitterSphere to her super witty posts, and her liberal use of cat pictures. Oprah posts way too many pictures of other celebrities and pretty sunsets. It appears that DeGeneres and her staff were caught off guard by her sudden rise to the top. Her producer said, If we had known we were getting close to this major milestone, we would have had a contest, given away yet another car, or something.
Since it all happened so fast, and in the middle of the night, the Ellen Show staff could not say with accuracy who their 50 millionth Twitter follower was. However, after some research, they concluded it was either CindyLuhu567 or TheRealFunnyMom.
